Ten out of eighteen teams notice attendance hike

BOUCHERVILLE, Thursday, March 22, 2007 – The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League today released its final regular season attendance report and the statistics show that 2,269,459 fans attended games this year - an average of 3,602 patrons per game. Last year, the League had established an all-time record by attracting 2,279,744 spectators.

Ten of the QMJHL’s eighteen teams noticed climbs in their average attendance numbers: Quebec (+1,837), Val-d’Or (+283), Lewiston (+191), Baie-Comeau (+141), Victoriaville (+104), Rouyn-Noranda (+87), Gatineau (+51), Drummondville (+26), Cape Breton (+25) and Rimouski (+2). Moreover, Quebec, Lewiston, Drummondville and Victoriaville established single-season records. The Remparts even broke the League’s single-season attendance figure by welcoming 365,443 fans to Colisée Pepsi.

Finally, 38,861,067 fans over 38 seasons have attended games in QMJHL regular season history.

"I can’t say I’m surprised with the attendance results this year," said the Commissioner, Gilles Courteau. "Teams did an incredible job of marketing their teams and the excitement surrounding major junior hockey is growing every year. The playoffs should offer our fans great hockey."
