The QMJHL names the scholastic players of the month of September

BOUCHERVILLE, Thursday, October 18, 2007 – Team academic consultants from around the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League landscape today released the names of the scholastic players of the month of September. This initiative, which was created by the QMJHL and its member clubs, aims to recognize student athletes who perform in the classroom.
"This undertaking’s goal is to encourage and recognize players who invest the time and efforts necessary to succeed academically," commented Robert Baker, the QMJHL’s educational advisor. "Team academic consultants are responsible for defining the criteria involved in the selection process, but they generally gravitate around test scores, regular attendance and the student’s initiative in encouraging his peers to reach their potential."
The Acadie-Bathurst Titan named Éric Faille as their player of the month. He has shown himself to be an assiduous and serious student, and has maintained excellent marks in the Social Sciences field. Éric is enrolled at Cégep @ distance.
The Baie-Comeau Drakkar is proud to name Francis Lanctôt as their student athlete of the month. Francis has maintained excellent test scores while astutely managing his time to better perform on the ice and in the classroom. Francis is pursuing a degree in Social Sciences at the Cégep in Baie-Comeau.
Jonathan Laberge is the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles’ choice. His motivation and strong work ethic are second to none. He is a respected figure on and off the ice. Jonathan studies Social Sciences through Cégep @ distance.
Maxime Provencher is Chicoutimi’s choice student. Maxime is enrolled in Natural Sciences at the Cégep in Chicoutimi. His positive attitude, respectful behavior in class as well as his good academic results makes Maxime the ideal candidate.
The Drummondville Voltigeurs are proud to name Stephen Valente as their representative. Although his first language is English, Stephen is pursuing his Natural Sciences studies in French at the Cégep in Drummondville. Stephen has demonstrated that he is strongly committed to reaching his academic potential.
The Halifax Mooseheads have named Travis Randall as their scholastic player of the month. Not only has he achieved excellent academic results, but the Prince Edward High student has impressed professors with his consistency.
The Lewiston MAINEiacs announced that their student athlete of the month is Tom Michalik. Last year, he completed five University courses and managed to obtain good results. He is a High School graduate of North Andover, Massachusetts.
The Moncton Wildcats have selected Chris Morehouse as their scholastic player of the month. Chris has had little trouble consolidating his University schedule with his passion for hockey. This semester, Chris is taking a history class at Mount Allison University in Sackville (NB) as well as a Health Science course at Athabasca University in Alberta.
Matthew Lachaine was nominated by the PEI Rocket. He stands out because of his hard work ethic, constant efforts and his marked enthusiasm in class. He is pursuing his studies with Cégep @ distance. Matthew is adamant about taking summer classes in order to keep up with his studies.
Kevin Desfossés of the Quebec Remparts is pursuing his degree at Laval University in Business Administration. Not only is he collecting hockey honours, but he is also very involved in the community and has managed to successfully complete his collegiate degree in less than three years. This semester, he is registered in three University classes.
The Rimouski Océanic have named Philippe Cornet as their scholastic player of the month. The Cégep de Rimouski student achived excellent academic results.
The Rouyn-Noranda Huskies have named Pier-Luc Giguère as their scholastic player of the month. Pier-Luc stands out due to his assiduity and exemplary behavior in the classroom. A marked interest in his studies and a high level of participation in extracurricular activities has led him to academic success.
The Saint John Sea Dogs have recognized Simon Bellavance-Després. Simon is a highly motivated, driven and organized individual, who has no trouble reaching his goals. He is a secondary 5 student in the Sport-Études program.
Brad Yetman is the Shawinigan Cataractes’ scholastic player of the month. Notwithstanding his young age, Brad has demonstrated high organizational skills which has enabled him, on numerous occasions, to hand in assignments prior to established deadlines. He is presently attending Gonzaga High School.
The Fog Devils’ scholastic player of the month, Pier-Antoine Dion, is presently in secondary 5 at Georges-Vanier high school. He is a well-respected, dedicated and disciplined role model both on the ice and in the classroom.
The Victoriaville Tigres are proud to name Jean-Christophe Blanchard as their student athlete of the month. His sustained efforts have enabled him to better his academic results. Moreover, his perseverance and initiative have led him to become an example for teammates. Jean-Christophe is currently studying Social Sciences at Cégep in Victoriaville.
