SHAWINIGAN, Friday, December 19, 2008 – Yannick Riendeau scored the game-winning goal at 9:28 of the third period in a 3-2 Voltigeurs win over the Cataractes to help silence the sold-out crowd of 3,560 spectators assembled for the final game at the legendary Jacques-Plante Arena. The building, which was built in 1937, was the home of the Cataractes for its entire 40-year history.

Neither team was able to get the jitters out in the opening frame as the score remained tied at zero. Samson Mahbod and Pierre-Alexandre Vandall registered markers in the second period and the score remained tied at one heading into the third.

The Cataractes took the lead thanks to Cédric Lalonde-McNicoll’s 25th goal of the campaing, but Yannick Riendeau scored two goals in less than a minute to give Drummondville the big win and control of the TELUS Central division standings with 58 points.

Goaltender Antoine Tardif made 31 stops in the win.

The Cataractes will open their new building on December 27 as the Montreal Juniors come to town.
