BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, December 22, 2008 – The P.E.I. Rocket and the Chicoutimi Saguenéens completed, this morning, what could be considered the first blockbuster trade of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League trade period.

The Saguenéens acquired 19-year-old forward Mathieu Tousignant (89-11-21) and a sixth round selection in 2009 (via Quebec) from the Rocket for forward Joël Champagne (90-01-24), defenseman Christopher Guay (89-07-28) and a sixth round pick in 2009.

Tousignant, a second round selection of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in 2005, has registered 14 goals and 24 helpers since the start of the 2008-09 season. Of note, Champagne was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the fifth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

The Titan sent defenseman Marc-Antoine Dupuis (90-08-29) to the Voltigeurs for an eighth round pick (via Acadie-Bathurst) in 2009.

The Tigres traded Nick Huard (91-03-29) to the MAINEiacs for Pierre-Luc Pelletier (91-07-11).

The Sea Dogs acquired defenseman Benjamin Lecomte (90-05-31) from the Huskies for a sixth round pick in 2009 (via Rimouski).

The trade period ends on Thursday, January 8, at noon.
