BOUCHERVILLE, Wednesday, January 7, 2009 – The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League today announced the winners of the offensive, defensive and rookie player of the month awards for December. The players were chosen by a committee mandated by the League.

Yannick Riendeau of the Drummondville Voltigeurs is the winner on offence. In eleven contests, Riendeau scored nine goals, including three game-winners, and added eighteen assists for a total of twenty-seven points. Furthermore, he posted a +12 rating. Riendeau was a key asset to the Voltigeurs’ franchise-record eighteen-game winning streak. Drummondville won ten of their eleven games in December.

Dany Massé (Voltigeurs), Marc-Olivier Vallerand (Remparts) and Jean-Philip Chabot (Olympiques) were also considered.

On the defensive end, Marc-Antoine Desnoyers is the award-winner. In eleven games, the Drummondville defenseman registered a goal and added six assists while posting a season-high +17 rating. Furthermore, he recorded twenty-seven hits. His stellar play on the back-end helped the Voltigeurs practically stay away from the loss column in December with their only defeat coming in the shootout.

Nicola Riopel (Wildcats), Olivier Roy (Screaming Eagles) and Guillaume Monast (Remparts) were also in the mix.

Among the rookies, Quebec Remparts winger Dmitri Kugryshev gets the nod. In seven games, Kugryshev recorded four goals, including a game-winner, and added nine assists to help the Remparts post a 9-2-0-0 record in December. Moreover, he registered a +6 rating. The Remparts have won eight consecutive games and sit atop the TELUS Eastern division standings.

Simon Jodoin (Wildcats), Dmitry Kulikov (Voltigeurs) and Sean Couturier (Voltigeurs) also received consideration.
